How to Eat Vegan and Gluten Free in The Hague, Netherlands

I spent a day and a half in Den Haag, or The Hague in English, in August of 2022. While visiting, we found a few restaurants with options for gluten free vegans.

In this article, I share all of my tips for how to eat vegan and gluten free while visiting The Hague.

Can you eat vegan and gluten free in The Hague?

Yes! You can visit The Hague as a gluten free vegan. There are a few restaurants that have both vegan and gluten free options, although none of them are dedicated gluten free.

If you would prefer cooking your own meals while visiting The Hague, there are plenty of grocery stores with vegan and gluten free options as well.

Does The Hague have vegan and gluten free options?

I found five restaurants in The Hague that I would recommend eating at. Although most of them are not dedicated gluten free, I would feel safe eating there as someone with celiac disease.

If you have a gluten intolerance and are more lenient with cross contamination, there are a number of other restaurants in The Hague that have gluten free options marked on their menus.

Next, is a list of five restaurants I have researched and feel confident recommending.

What are the best vegan and gluten free restaurants in The Hague?

  • Veggies on Fire

    • Open for dinner Friday through Sunday

    • Get reservations at least few days in advance

  • Pizzeria Il Vesuvio

    • Gluten free pizza crust and vegan cheese options

    • Open for dinner Thursday through Sunday

  • Passion Ethiopian Coffee

    • Consider staying in their AirBnB over top of the café

  • SLA

  • Icecreamshop L' Arcobaleno

    • Dedicated gluten free ice cream shop with vegan options

Is it hard to be vegan and gluten free in The Hague?

While it’s not effortless to be vegan and gluten free while visiting The Hague, there are a few restaurants that have options.

If you are only staying for a day or two, you can grab breakfast or lunch at either a grocery store or Passion Ethiopian Coffee and get dinner at Veggies on Fire or Pizzeria Il Vesuvio.

If you are staying longer, you will have to repeat a few restaurants or make a couple meals yourself.
