How to Eat Vegan and Gluten Free in Amsterdam

I traveled to Amsterdam in August of 2022. There were so many great restaurants to try! You will find options for every meal of the day and occasion.

In this article, I share all of my tips for how to eat vegan and gluten free while visiting Amsterdam.

Can you eat vegan and gluten free in Amsterdam?

Yes! Eating vegan and gluten free is pretty easy in Amsterdam. There are a lot of restaurants that have both vegan and gluten free options.

Amsterdam has options for everything from grabbing a quick snack from a grocery store to reserving a table right on the canal for dinner.

Does Amsterdam have vegan and gluten free options?

There are a lot of vegan and gluten free options in Amsterdam. There are even multiple dedicated vegan and gluten free restaurants!

A lot of restaurants in Amsterdam have gluten free options listed on their menu. Many, but not all of them, are safe for people with celiac disease.

Next, I have a list of restaurants that I have researched and have been to myself.

What are the best vegan and gluten free restaurants in Amsterdam?

I only recommend restaurants I feel confident eating. These are my favorite places to get vegan and gluten free food in Amsterdam, in no particular order. These restaurants are also included in the map above.

  • Croque Madame

    • Dedicated gluten free

    • Great for lunch

  • SUE Bites Bar

    • Great for breakfast or dessert

    • Also have great coffee

  • Factory Girl

  • Wild and The Moon

    • Dedicated gluten free and vegan

  • De Glutenvrije Winkel

  • The Meets

  • Vegan Sushi Bar

  • g’ in west

    • More like a grocery store but everything is gluten free!

  • Alchemist Garden Community

Restaurants to avoid

  • Vegan Junk Food Bar

    • They had an allergen menu but, as of August 2022, I was told by staff everything was cross contaminated.

  • Pancakes Amsterdam

    • They had separate batters for their vegan pancakes and gluten free pancakes.

  • JOE & THE JUICE

    • For sandwiches, they had one vegan option with gluten free bread, but I don’t recommend it for celiacs due to high probability of cross contamination.

Is it hard to be vegan and gluten free in Amsterdam?

Not at all! There are several restaurants where you will be able to find options.

In Amsterdam, the only reason you will be going back to the same restaurant is because you love the food, not because it’s your only option.

Grocery stores also have many vegan and gluten free options and are adding more every year.

Do any gluten free restaurants in Amsterdam serve brunch?

Yes. Several gluten free and vegan restaurants serve brunch in Amsterdam. You will be able to find unique restaurants for every meal of the day.

I recommend stopping at Factory Girl for their amazing vegan and gluten free pancakes.

What are some of the best places to visit in Amsterdam?

  • Rijksmuseum

  • Van Gogh Museum

    • I recommend ordering tickets a couple weeks in advance.

  • Anne Frank House

    • All tickets for the month become available the first Tuesday of the preceding month. I recommend getting tickets as soon as they are available.

  • Rembrandt House Museum

  • The Oude Church and Clock Tower

    • Take the clock tower tour.

  • Royal Palace Amsterdam

  • Vondelpark

  • Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam
