A Gluten Free Vegan’s Review of Hungry Pants in Orlando, FL

Hungry Pants, located in southern downtown Orlando, is a refreshing and modern restaurant. They have an array of options from comfort food to healthier options and vegan to meat options.

Atmosphere

The restaurant had a very nice, calm vibe. The style felt fresh and modern.

They had lots of plants around the dining room and a smaller plant on most of the tables. The dining room was also decorated with framed, funky pants.

The lighting was pleasant and they also played music softly in the background.

The restaurant has plenty of tables as well as outdoor seating.

We went for a later dinner on a Wednesday. There were a few people dining in but they weren’t too crowded.

Overall, Hungry Pants has a great atmosphere.

Black Bean Brownie ($4.00)

  • Vegan and gluten free chocolate brownie made with a black bean base

Taste: ★★★★☆

My vegetable stir fry was great! The taste reminded me of a vegetable lo-mein dish from a fancy hibachi restaurant I had been to growing up. It was a little spicier than I was expecting, which wasn’t an issue for me but is good to know if you don’t enjoy much spice.

The black bean brownie was also tasty. It was very chocolatey but wasn’t too rich, which was perfect. It was not too dry or crumbly either.

My husband had the Fried Chicken Sammie (not vegan or gluten free) and my dad had the Spicy Salmon Salad Wrap (not vegan or gluten free). They both thought their meals tasted good too.

Quality: ★ ★★★★

All of the food was obviously prepared fresh and high quality. All of our food was perfectly cooked.

Variety: ★★★★☆

Although it isn’t the majority of the menu, Hungry Pants has multiple vegan and gluten free options to choose from.

Quantity: ★★★★☆

I thought the vegetable stir fry was more filling than I was expecting it to be. It paired with the brownie made a perfect amount for dinner.

My dad and husband thought their portions were a little smaller for dinner, especially with them being listed in the “Famished” section. They both agreed it would be the perfect amount for lunch.

Value: ★★★★☆

We thought the price was good overall, especially considering the quality and the restaurant being in downtown Orlando.

Service

Hospitality: ★★★★★

All of the staff were very welcoming and helpful. They brought us water refills and checked on us frequently.

Efficiency: ★★★★★

It didn’t take long to get our food, only 15-20 minutes.

Accuracy: ★★★★★

Everything came out as ordered.

Safety

Staff knowledge: ★★★★★

The staff is knowledgeable about gluten and celiac disease. When I told them I had celiac disease, they specifically went and spoke to the cook to make sure they knew which items were for an allergy.

Also, when they got the brownie out of the display case, they used gloves to prevent cross contamination.

Preparation: ★★★★☆

  • Use separate pans, utensils, gloves

  • Brought my food out separately

  • Not a dedicated gluten free kitchen

Always tell staff you are vegan and have celiac disease, or a gluten intolerance, to make sure they take extra precautions and prepare your food with clean surfaces.

Did I get *glutened? No

*Glutened (verb, past tense)
When a person who has celiac disease, or a gluten intolerance, consumes gluten accidentally and experiences gluten induced symptoms.

Overall

★★★★☆

Would I go back? Yes

Hungry Pants was a great restaurant to stop at while we were traveling though Orlando. It’s a perfect place for lunch and brunch on the weekends.

You won’t find nicer people, a better atmosphere, or better options for all diet styles. We’ll definitely be back when we’re in Orlando again.
